Protecting your credit from fraud….

One way to insure you are the only individual opening credit in your name is putting an alert on your credit profile with all 3 credit bureaus.  To do this you must copy your cell phone bill, 2 forms of proof of address, and one form of proof of social security.   Take all of these copies and send one of each to Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax.  With the proof you must enclose a letter.  The letter should state the following:

Date,

My name is ________________, My address, SS#, and date of birth is.  I have attached a copy of my phone bill, proof of SS and Address.  I would like you to place a note on my credit profile that any creditors opening  credit in my name must contact me directly for approval first.  Please place this note on my credit for as long as possible and send me an updated copy of my report confirming this action.

Sign it and mail a copy to each credit reporting agencies.

Remember you will, almost always, not be able to get instant credit. Most creditors will call you within a day or two to confirm your permission.
