NEW CHANGES FOR ORDERING
REPORTS FROM ALL THREE CREDIT BUREAU MONITORING SITES!
|
|
|
Experian
Freecreditreport.com,
which is Experian, can no longer pretend they are offering free
products. In the past they would lure consumers into a trial period
that turns into a monthly fee unless cancelled. Free credit
report.com now offers your score and credit reports at $1.00 fee.
This is a way to sign consumers up for a seven day trial that
kicks into a triple monitoring program at a cost per month. If there
is no cancellation prior to the seven days the funds are
automatically deducted and the monthly monitoring service becomes
active. Offering a $1.00 fee to start the trial is still tricky
practice. Many consumers will automatically believe it is a onetime
fee and fail to notice the small box beneath the ad stating the
details of the automatic monitoring product and additional charges.

Equifax
Unlike
Experian's site, Equifax is much clearer in costs
associated with monitoring products they are offering. It is obvious
that when you get your free scores you are also paying for three
in one monitoring. Of course they are using the three new
free scores as a lure and consumers could very well assume they are
getting three scores (one for each credit bureau) when in
reality it is supplying three more Equifax scores at various
times during the year.

Trans Union
Trans Union is
now clearly stating a 30 day free trial with a monthly charge
thereafter. The tricky part is that consumers will
automatically be billed if there is no cancellation. The
advertising can still be construed as confusing. Not everyone
realizes that "there after" means automatically.
It seems these
monitoring companies are making major profits for, whatever few
months or years of monthly monitoring, billed to consumers who are
unaware of the automatic fee's they signed up for. This seems to be
false advertising or unclear at best. It is a shame that big
business is still able to continue victimizing the public. The
changes that have recently forced the bureaus to be transparent are
not strict enough to make practices upfront and obvious.
Although these new rules are giving consumers a better view of what
they are signing up for it is still far from clear.
